Program Profile

The Foreign Languages School at Çağ University aims to equip students with the necessary English language skills to successfully follow their academic programs. Students who cannot document their English proficiency or fail to take/pass the English Proficiency Exam are required to take a mandatory English Preparatory course for one academic year. The English Proficiency Exam consists of four main sections: listening, reading, writing, and language use. Students who do not pass or do not take the exam are then subjected to a Level Determination Exam. This exam is designed to objectively assess the students' language levels. Based on the results, students are classified into three level groups: A1, A2, and B1, and continue their education in the Foreign Languages School according to the determined level.

Learning Environment

The education and training are primarily conducted through face-to-face methods. Due to the suitability of our existing technological infrastructure, the distance learning method is also partially implemented.

The primary goal of the program is to equip students with sufficient language skills to understand what they read and listen to, and to express themselves both in writing and orally. The English Preparatory Year is one academic year long, and assessment includes achievement tests, presentation projects, writing portfolios, and online assignments. The passing grade for the Foreign Languages School Preparatory Program is set at a minimum of 60 points, with at least 50 points required in the final exam. Students who do not achieve the passing grade at the end of the academic year will be considered unsuccessful, regardless of previous grades, and will take summer courses. Since the exit level of the Preparatory Program is B1+, the level of the final exam is also determined to be B1+.

Quality Assurance

To ensure the quality of higher education programs, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) is responsible for planning, organizing, managing, and overseeing education and other activities at higher education institutions. YÖK publishes "University Monitoring and Evaluation Reports" annually, which contain quantitative and qualitative evaluations of higher education institutions. The Foreign Languages School ensures the quality of the Preparatory Program through the following mechanisms:

  • Program Creation and Approval: YÖK defines the minimum standards and criteria required for foreign language preparatory programs in higher education institutions. The Foreign Languages School and Çağ University Senate define the program details in accordance with YÖK's basic principles.

  • Assessment and Evaluation: The assessment and evaluation of learning outcomes are carried out according to the Çağ University Foreign Languages School Teaching and Examination Regulations, in compliance with YÖK's principles.

  • Certification: Students who meet the success criteria determined by the school receive a language proficiency certificate.

  • Self-Evaluation and External Evaluation: Çağ University submits "Institutional Internal Evaluation Reports" to the Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK) system annually. YÖKAK also shares external evaluation feedback and accreditation decisions with the public. Accreditation decisions from authorized bodies demonstrate the quality assurance of the program's competencies.
