Q: Who can benefit from the Disabled Student Unit?
A: Students who have been diagnosed with the conditions listed below can benefit.
Q: Can I apply to the Disabled Student Unit with any doctor's report?
A: According to the Special Education Regulation, Article 7, "In diagnosis; the individual's disability health board report, mental, physical, psychological, social development characteristics, academic discipline proficiency, educational performance, needs, duration of benefiting from educational services, and individual development report are taken into account." To benefit from educational equality rights, the student must apply with a Disability Health Board Report stating that the disability rate is 20% or higher.
Q: Do I need to get a disability report?
A: Yes. To communicate your requests to the academics of the courses you are taking, you need to submit your report, which states at least a 20% disability rate and specifies your disability condition, to the Disabled Student Unit.
Q: Will any doctor's report be valid?
A: No. Only students who bring a medical board report stating 20% or higher disability rate can benefit from the Disabled Student Unit services.
Q: Do I need to bring the original report?
A: No. It is sufficient to bring a photocopy of the report.
Q: Do I need to get a report and submit it to your unit every year?
A: It depends on the validity period of the report. If your report is temporary, you must renew it when the period expires. If the report is indefinite, you will not need to submit a new report; instead, information will be sent to your academic instructors every year.
Q: How can I get a disability report?
A: You can obtain your report by applying to a fully equipped state or university hospital. For detailed information, you can also consult the hospital or doctor you are applying to.
Q: How will the Disabled Student Unit benefit me?
A: The Disabled Student Unit works to ensure educational equality. During your application, we determine your needs regarding classes, exams, and assignments. (e.g., ensuring you sit in a place where you can follow the instructor and the board, printing your exam papers in large font, providing additional time for exams, etc.). We evaluate these requests as the Disabled Student Unit and send confidential notification messages to your instructors at the beginning of the semester.
Q: I have reservations about applying to the Disabled Student Unit.
A: That’s understandable. We can discuss these reservations together. All of our meetings are conducted under the principle of confidentiality. If you have a disability, do not hesitate to apply to our unit. This is your legal right.
Q: Can everyone see the messages sent to the instructors?
A: No. Only the academics for the course you are taking in that semester can see the messages.
