HUK-101 Introduction to Law
Introduction to Law; aims to teach justice program students the basic concepts, principles, and rules that will be covered in all other law courses throughout their education and to prepare students for other law courses. Within this scope, fundamental topics such as the definition of law, the categories of social norms and the relationship between norms and law, public and private law distinction and their divisions, sources of law and within this framework, laws, the making and implementation of laws, legal relations and rights, etc. are covered.
TRK-101 Turkish I
Turkish I; addresses the definition and features of language, the language-culture relationship, classification of languages and the position of Turkish among world languages, historical development of the Turkish language, Turkey Turkish, the Turkish Language Institution and its studies, phonetics and sound events in Turkish, spelling rules, punctuation marks, and rules regarding correspondence.
TRK-102 Turkish II
In Turkish II; within the scope of oral and written expression studies, presentations, novels, short stories, essays, poems, compositions, magazine and newspaper review and applications, book presentations, spelling and punctuation, sentence elements, sentence types, expression errors, composition knowledge, types of written expression, opinion writings, types of oral expression, and prepared/unprepared speaking activities are addressed.
HUK-105 Constitutional Law
Constitutional Law; after summarizing the General Principles of Constitutional Law, the fundamental structure of the state according to our Constitution, legislative, executive, judiciary, fundamental rights and freedoms, elections, political parties, constitutional judiciary, etc., are examined.
HUK-107 Civil Law
The content of Civil Law I covers the concept of Civil Law, dealing with issues related to personal status, when and how personality begins and ends and how it is protected, issues related to capacity, and the distinction between natural and legal persons.
HUK-108 Law of Obligations
General information about the Law of Obligations, the concept of obligation, general examination of sources giving rise to obligations, elements of torts and examples from practice, basic knowledge about unjust enrichment. Examination of the performance of obligations, time and place of performance, parties involved, reasons terminating the obligation, and discussion of practical examples with students.
HUK-111 Criminal Law
Criminal Law; concepts, principles governing criminal law, history, sources and interpretation of criminal law, application areas of criminal law (territorial, temporal, personal), general theory of crime, elements of crime, issues outside the elements of crime (prerequisites, conditions for punishment, personal immunity, criminal procedure conditions), legal element (typicality), material element (act), illegality element, mental element (typicality), special forms of crime (attempt, aggregation, participation), mistake, perpetrator, victim, penalties for victims (concept, types, consequences of conviction: accessory and complementary penalties, determination of penalties, suspension, judicial admonition, conditional release), restitution of prohibited rights and removal of convictions from the judicial record, causes reducing criminal liability (death of defendant, pardon, statute of limitations).
HUK-114 Commercial Law
Commercial Law; topics such as Commercial Enterprise Law, Negotiable Instruments Law, and Company Law are covered. The course provides essential information on commercial legislation, potential problems in commercial life and solutions, company formation and management, commercial papers, their features and types, and the responsibilities, rights, and duties of enterprises.
BIL-118 Computer Usage and Applications
In Computer Usage and Applications; basic computer hardware, software concepts, hardware-software components, basic computer usage, everyday programs, web browsers, and frequently used MS Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) in professional life are covered.
ING-131 English I
English I; aims to refresh and enable students to use known, daily expressions and very basic patterns, answer questions containing personal details such as possessions, acquaintances, places of residence, ask questions, introduce themselves and others, and ultimately communicate slowly and clearly with their interlocutor.
ING-132 English II
English II; aims to enable students to recognize sentences and commonly used expressions related to topics of greatest interest (basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). It also enables communication in emergency situations, simple description of their surroundings and personal life, and routine tasks requiring simple and direct information exchange.
HUK-160 Administrative Law
Administrative Law; regulates the relations between individuals/communities and the executive and its technical extension, the administration. Topics include the Turkish Administrative Organization (central administration and its provincial extensions, local administrations, etc.), administrative acts (administrative actions, contracts, etc.), activities of the administration (public services, law enforcement, etc.), Personnel Law, administration’s property and acquisition methods, financial responsibility, judicial control of administration (administrative cases, procedures, etc.).
TAR-201 Atatürk’s Principles and History of Turkish Revolution I
Covers the strategy of the Turkish Revolution, the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, reasons preparing the Turkish Revolution, modernization movements in the 19th century Ottoman Empire, internal and external events during the empire’s dissolution, intellectual movements, World War I, signing of the Mondros Armistice, occupations, reactions, societies, initial steps for the national struggle, and organization through congresses.
TAR-202 Atatürk’s Principles and History of Turkish Revolution II
Covers the proclamation of the Republic, importance of officials and leaders within the revolution, constitutional solutions regarding the Lausanne Conference, the new republic’s participation in international organizations and treaties, multi-party attempts, domestic and foreign policies of Turkey, social, legal, economic, cultural, military developments, Atatürk’s Principles (Kemalism), and Turkey’s secure foreign policy “Peace at Home, Peace in the World”.
UYP-202 UYAP Information System
General instruction on how cases are processed through UYAP, the need for computer use, and monitoring court cases via UYAP. Students will be able to apply UYAP procedures in compliance with legislation with appropriate environment and tools.
HUK-204 Labor and Social Security Law
Covers the concepts of work, worker, employment contract, and rights granted to workers. Types of employment contracts, fixed/indefinite contracts, termination and resulting effects. Introduces basic concepts of social security law, long- and short-term insurance branches, union, collective labor agreements.
HUK-209 Civil Procedure Law
Covers introduction, judicial organization, judges’ status, duties and authority, lawsuit, legal remedies, and arbitration. Topics include counterclaims, prohibition of changing/extending defense, precautionary measures, theory of evidence, legal and discretionary evidence, remedies, and arbitration.
HUK-218 Criminal Procedure Law
Covers basic concepts, application of CPC in terms of place, time, and person; investigation and prosecution stages; legal remedies; state-victim relations; special procedures; duration, duties, and jurisdiction according to the Criminal Procedure Code; preliminary and final investigation rules; hearings; evidence; detention; and legal remedies.
ING-221 English III
English III; aims to refresh students’ knowledge of daily expressions and basic patterns, enable them to respond to questions with personal details (possessions, acquaintances, residence), ask questions, introduce themselves and others, and communicate slowly and clearly.
ING-222 English IV
English IV; helps students understand main lines of clear and standard information encountered at work, school, and leisure, handle common situations while traveling, write simple connected texts on familiar topics, describe experiences, events, dreams, hopes, goals, and give reasons for thoughts and plans.
BIL-223 Keyboard Knowledge
Covers understanding MS Word Office package features and subroutines, configuring and sizing worksheets, generating large reports, and ensuring students type accurately and quickly with F keyboard layout.
HUK-228 Execution and Bankruptcy Law
Covers execution law in accordance with the Execution-Bankruptcy Code: enforcement of judgments, precautionary attachment, enforcement through bankruptcy, material and formal bankruptcy law, bankruptcy crimes, concordat law, and annulment lawsuits.
HUK-273 Justice Psychology
Covers concepts of crime and offender, criminal law institutions, penal system, judicial process, factors affecting judges’ decisions, witness institution, victimization, and contemporary justice psychology. Discusses subconscious states and substance-related offenses from an interdisciplinary perspective.
HUK-275 Financial Law
Covers financial events, scope of financial law, public sector definition, scope, and functions, public services and characteristics, public expenditures and revenues, basic concepts of taxation, Turkish tax system, budget implementation and supervision in Turkey, budget definition, development, features, principles, stages, theory and techniques, and public borrowing.
