Past to Present

Çağ University was established on July 9, 1997, as a public legal entity, in accordance with Law No.4282 and the provisions of Law No. 2547 related to Foundation Higher Education Institutions.

When it was first established, it included the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, the Vocational School, the Preparatory School (English), the Institute of Social Sciences, and the Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences. Additionally, with the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 06.11.1997 and numbered 97/10212, the Faculty of Law affiliated to the University Rectorate was also established.

Çağ University, which stands out with its dynamic structure, modern campus, international teaching staff, and the quality education offered to its students, and whose language of instruction is English, is the first Foundation University in Mediterranean Region, Çukurova which is considered as a natural paradise, historical and cultural center, and its campus area has reached 520,000 m2 with donated areas after 2005.

The number of the students and academic staff at the university has increased each passing year. The total number of the students, which was 422 in the 1998-1999 period, increased to approximately 7000 in the 2021-2022 academic year.

When the university first started its academic activities, the number of academic staff was around 25. However, in the 2021-2022 academic year, the number of permanent academic staff increased to 230, with an additional 30 hourly paid teaching staff. The total number of administrative and security personnel has also increased to 90.

In parallel with the increase in the number of the students, academic staff, and administrative personnel, the number of buildings and classrooms has also increased.

Starting its education with a single building which is currently known as the Rectorate Building, Çağ University was contributed by the second building which is still embodies the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Preparatory School building at the end of the 1998-1999 academic year. In the 2003-2004 academic year, the third building was constructed where the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences are located. In 2005-2006, an Amphitheater was built and the person capacity of the Amphitheater was increased to 1000. In the 2007-2008 academic year, new computer labs and additional offices were constructed at “Science and Technology Center” which is a modern building with its total area of 4,500 m2. Computer labs, the Institute of Social Sciences, and the Library were relocated to this new facility. In 2013-2014 academic year, the academic staff of the Vocational School were also relocated to the science center.

In this center, Internet Room, Individual and Group Study Rooms and Conference Halls were put into operation. In addition, institution with the aim of providing and transferring information, research centers, Erasmus and Career Offices and the other units with similar functions were located in the science center. The construction of the Space Observation and Research Center, located on the top floor of the Science and Technology Center, was completed and put into operation in 2009.

Every year, in addition to renewal activities involving additional constructions at our university, it is planned to make new construction investments for the following years.

The number of the studies conducted in the academic fields has also increased significantly.

The language of instruction in the Vocational School was changed from English to Turkish  as a result of students’ demands, university’s offer and Council of Higher Education’s confirmation since 2005- 2006 academic year. Students have the option of studying at English Preparatory School on a volunteer basis.

The courses at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and  Faculty of Arts and Sciences (except for Turkish Language and Literature) are all in English while 30% of the courses given at the Law Faculty are English.
